I was driving down the road at age 19 or 20. I remember saying to myself that I wanted to have as many experiences as I possibly could in life and not compromise while doing it. I figured this was the only way to understand its meaning. Little did I know that I would learn more about myself than the meaning behind it.

But who am I to think that I’m special enough to have the unknown others out there read my blog? What makes my life or opinion more interesting than theirs? I don’t have those answers, but what I know is people are attracted to real speak. At the very least my blog becomes an online autobiography for my own use for when the day comes that I can’t remember the details any longer. Hopefully that day isn’t for many years from now.

At times I go on and ramble or get distracted and forget my train of thought. Speaking of trains, have you ever ridden on a bullet train in Japan? Fucking phenomenal! Smooth. Quiet. Clean. Now, THAT is podracing! Where was I? Oh, yeah… I’m not one to be stagnant, but sometimes fear keeps me from taking chances. When you realize that’s happening, there’s only one thing left to do and that’s to explode out the gate.

Trying something new can be scary ’cause we all know society is harsh. Sometimes, I think we use destructive criticism as if we have a Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free-Card to simply be a bitch. All I have to say to that is, “Sis, I helped pave the way for you to be able to have that bitchy attitude out there in your safe space, so go read someone else’s ass cause all you’re gonna do to mine is fucking kiss it.”

Actually, I really didn’t do anything special. I was at the March On Washington back in ’93. It was a magical experience to support and stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters at such a formative time in finding myself. There’s power in numbers. It makes you feel accompanied, seen, heard and your anxiety slips away like giving your soul a shower. That one experience would create a desire to give back years later by running a small town LGBT youth group.

Life is about balance. Pay attention to where you’re headed, but don’t pay so much attention to it that you don’t see what you’re passing. Conversely, don’t give all attention to your surroundings that you lose track of where you’re headed. Life is relatively simple. If you have a pulse, you are and have your million-dollar contract already. Hopefully, you’re interested to see what I’m coming up with next and are rooting for me. I know that I’m watching and will be cheering your next creation, so what you waiting for?
